Segmentation of Pulmonary Fissures on Diagnostic CT { Preliminary Experience

چکیده
We describe a new approach to detect the ssures between the lobes of the lungs in computed tomography (CT) scans. We focus on the detection of the major ssures in diagnostic CT. Our approach is to rst nd a region containing the ssure and then extract the ssure within this region by analyzing local features. We developed a \marching-bar method" to segment the region containing the ssure. After this region is computed for an initial slice, ssure extraction in consecutive slices is performed using the location information inherited from previous slices.

An Enhanced Framework for Automated Segmentation of the Pulmonary Lobes from Chest CT Scans using Level Set Approach
Segmentation of the pulmonary lobes is relevant in clinical practice and particularly challenging for cases with severe diseases or incomplete fissures. Automatic segmentation of the separate human lung lobes is a crucial task in computer aided diagnostics and intervention planning, and required for example for determination of disease spreading or pulmonary parenchyma quantification. In this w...
متن کاملPulmonary fissure segmentation on CT
A pulmonary fissure is a boundary between the lobes in the lungs. Its segmentation is of clinical interest as it facilitates the assessment of lung disease on a lobar level. This paper describes a new approach for segmenting the major fissures in both lungs on thin-section computed tomography (CT). An image transformation called "ridge map" is proposed for enhancing the appearance of fissures o...
متن کاملSegment Segmentation in Lung CT Images - Preliminary Results
Segmentation of lung anatomical parts like fissures and bronchopulmonary segments are of clinical importance in interpreting and assessing the pathologies present in the lungs. Segmentation of fissures still remains a challenging task as the selection of the segmentation algorithm decides the accuracy of the fissure segmentation. We conducted experiments on the existing segmentation methods and...

We read with interest the article entitled “Volumetric thin-section CT: evaluation of pulmonary interlobar fissures” by Guan et al. (1) in the Nov-Dec 2015 issue of Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology. The authors gave detailed information about interlobar fissures, their incompleteness, relationship to vascular structures, CT appearance, and defect location. The interlobar fissures and the...
متن کاملLung fissure detection in CT images using global minimal paths
Pulmonary fissures separate human lungs into five distinct regions called lobes. Detection of fissure is essential for localization of the lobar distribution of lung diseases, surgical planning and follow-up. Treatment planning also requires calculation of the lobe volume. This volume estimation mandates accurate segmentation of the fissures. Presence of other structures (like vessels) near the...
